2007 Dodge Nitro: Compact Sport Utility Vehicle
Dodge Nitro is a compact, four-door SUV available with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD), based on the same platform as the Jeep Liberty. Styling touches give the Nitro a burly image, with a high beltline, large wheels, grille, hood and a muscular, chiseled look.
Nitro comes in SXT, SLT, and R/T models. SXT and SLT have a 3.7-liter V-6 engine rated 210 horsepower at 5,200 rpm, 235 pounds-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm; SXT gets a six-speed manual transmission; a 4-speed automatic is standard on SLT and optional for SXT. R/T has a 4-liter V-6 rated 260 hp at 6,000 rpm, 265 lbs.-ft. at 4,000 and five-speed automatic transmission. Traction control is standard with all powertrains. All Nitros are available with rear-wheel drive.
RWD models are rated 18/24 mpg (city/highway); 4-liter V-6 with automatic transmission is rated 23 mpg on the highway. 4WD models are rated 17 or 18/22 to 24 mpg (city/ highway), 19 or 20 mpg in mixed driving, depending on engine and transmission.
Standard safety gear includes Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, an antiskid system, and curtain side airbags. SLT and R/T models feature Dodge's Load 'n Go cargo floor; it slides back 18 inches to form a table surface. Cargo space is 32.1 cubic feet behind the rear seat, 65.2 cubic feet with the rear seat folded. Options include a navigation system, DVD entertainment, and a wireless cell phone link.
