2008 Chrysler 300 360 View
Overview
The Chrysler 300 is a carryover from 2007. This marks an important continuity for the model, which set the road blazing way back in the 1950s when it was the undisputed leader in its class, but which fell into virtual obscurity thereafter.
Powertrain and performance
The Touring trim has a 190-horsepower, 2.7-liter V-6 engine; the Limited a 250-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6; while the Base model is fitted with a 178-horsepower engine. There are also higher models with a Hemi V-8 and SRT. The Chrysler 300 offers a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive option. There is also a model in which the wheelbase is six inches longer than that of the standard 300, and which comes with a V-6 engine.
Styling
Most features of the exterior remain unchanged, except for small changes to the front and rear fascias and tail lamps, and the addition of a new rear deck lid. The interior design is more sophisticated for 2008, highlighted by a new instrument panel and center console. Novel entertainment features comprise a Boston Acoustics, eight-speaker, 5.1 Matrix surround sound system; Sirius backseat TV™; and MyGIG™ multimedia infotainment system with optional navigation.
Safety
An important security feature is the ignition disable system, which turns the engine off if an inauthentic key is used. In addition are seatbelt pretensioners, which automatically tighten seatbelts and position the occupant so that the impact of an accident is least; and front-impact air bags. These safety features earned the Chrysler 300 a full five stars for front passenger and driver safety from the NHTSA. Other features such as anti-lock braking and stability control are optional on the Base model, but standard for the other trims.
